Peerumedu

One among the highest spots on the hilly routes in Tamilakam (before) and a very popular hillside in Kerala today at a whopping altitude of over Three thousand feet is this site of Peerumedu. It is one of the most attractive spots of Kerala and has been bringing a lot of tourism to the state proudly being among the best things to see in Thekkady. and it just cannot be missed in any Thekkady tour package.

Best Time to Explore

The best time to explore the lush hillside is between April and June in summers and from September to November in early winters.

The Legend

As per the legends, the name of the beautiful hillside is believed to have been taken from the sacred Sufi Saint, Peer Mohd. The story that has been doing rounds amidst the locals ever since is that he was the first person ever to have traded spices from the hill.

The site is believed to be a royal site in itself as it was the Summer home of the aristocracy of Travancore. The summer home is now constructed into a magnificent guest house by the Govt. Dept. Of Tourism.
