1. The Sabarimala Trek

This eight-kilometer long trek to Sabarimala is something that attracts a lot of excitement from the tourists and travelers visiting the site. Some take it as a religious venture and walk the trail out of utmost devotion while the backpackers take it as a trek to one of the most breathtaking views of the State. However, it requires prior permissions to go for the trek and even to visit Pullumedu considering the tragedy of 2011 and the dangers it beholds considering how lonely the place is surrounded by steep rolling hills. It is the restricted site of the Sanctuary of Periyar.

2. The Tragedy of 2011

Over a hundred devotees who visited to witness the sacred divine light of Makarjyothi in 2011 were killed by a stampede in Pullumedu. It is one of the facts that shall stay with the Pullumedu area forever. You must pray for the ones who lost their lives while visiting the beautiful spot.

3. The Green Carpet

The place is known for its greenery and it genuinely looks like the hills around are covered in the carpet of lush green grass which is a wonderful sight to behold. Reaching the summit and looking at the wonderful sight from the top is one of the memorable sights of the life which shall stay with you for a long time to come.

4. Makara Jyothi Celebrations

The Makara Jyothi is a divine light which can be seen every January from the Pullumedu coming from the sacred site of the temple of Sabarimala. The clear sight of the light is what makes the summit of Pullumedu so popular. Looking at the sacred beam of lights is considered to be something worth celebrating and cherishing for the rest of your life.
