Pawna Lake was created when the Pawana Dam was built west across the Pawana River, which comes from the Western Ghats. The earth-fill gravity dam created a water reservoir with a capacity of 0.24 km3, the primary water source for the Pimpri-Chinchwad (Navi Pune) area.

The beautiful scenery is covered in a green carpet and has historically significant forts like Lohagad Fort, Tikona Fort, Tung Fort, and Visapur Fort. It was an important area for military purposes, particularly evident from the strong defenses, which are hundreds of years old. Because Pawana Lake is in the Western Ghats, it is a natural haven for plants and animals.

Why Is Pawna Lake So Popular?

A man-made lake has been chiseled as a focal point for nature's arts and craftwork with splendid sunsets, undisturbed air, green armor, and eroded hills. Due to its closeness to Mumbai, Lonavala, and especially Pune, it makes for a great weekend vacation for families and people who want to spend their time relaxing and rejuvenating.

It is a little-known area and well worth visiting for its beautiful scenery. The Pawna Lake area is a great place to lose oneself in nature with no one else around. Among the places to visit in Lonavala, Pawna Lake stands out for its scenic charm.
