Tung Fort is a hill fort close to Lonavala. It is famous for the Pavana Lake inside its complex. At 1075 meters, this fort is a little hard to get to. Tourists have to climb a steep 1,200-foot part of the fort to get to the spot. It is one of the most popular places to visit in Lonavala. You can see Lohagad Fort, Visapur Fort, Tikona Fort, and Korigad Fort from the top.

What Makes Tung Fort One of the Most Challenging Treks?

It is 1075 meters above sea level at the Tung Fort. It's also called a "Kathingad," which means "hard to climb." The walk is pretty standard, but people who have never done a walk like this before should go with an expert hiker.

The hike up takes an hour and a half, and the hike down takes that long, too. It's not easy to get on the trail. There are big rocks and loose rocks. Also, the steps are not very wide. The path is right next to a hill, which makes it look scary and can be dangerous. Many Lonavala tour packages include this trek for adventure enthusiasts.

Most people think it's worth it to see the view from the top of the fort. As it did when it was a watchtower, this spot's height lets you see the whole Maval region, including the Pawana and Mulshi rivers.

Breathtaking Panoramic Views from the Top

In addition, the fort's peaky and oval shape makes it stand out from a farther distance. People can enjoy beautiful views of Pawna Lake, Tikona, and Visapur Fort from the top. People who come to the area can relax and visit either the Tungi Devi or Ganpati temples after they have walked.

Historical Importance during the Maratha Era

The fort is in Kamshet and is ringed by water on three sides. In 1600, the Adil Shahi Dynasty built the fort. Later, Chhatrapati Shivaji took it over. From far away, you can see the sharp classical fort.

Best Time to Visit for Tung Fort

During the wet season, from July to September, bright green jungles and sparkling bodies of water flood the fort. Wandering through the swamp can be a little dangerous, but the breathtaking views of Pawan Lake and the surrounding scenery make up for it.
