The Pratapgarh Fort was the pride of the Maratha Empire. It is now a historical site that people who want to learn more about its past are welcome to visit. The Pratapgarh Fort is in the Satara area, 3500 feet above sea level. The Maratha King Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj built it in 1656 to protect the Par Pass, making it one of the significant places to visit in Mahabaleshwar.

A Majestic Structure with Historical Importance

There are two parts to Pratapgarh: the upper fort and the bottom part. The top part of the fort is square and 180 meters long on each side. The bottom part, on the other hand, is 320 meters long and 110 meters wide.

The Mahadev Temple and the Bhavani Temple are inside the Pratapgarh Fort. There is also a watchtower at the main entry. There is also a 17-foot-tall figure of Shivaji Maharaj here. They put up this statue about 60 years ago, and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru revealed it on November 30, 1957.

Breathtaking Views from the Fort's Summit

The view from the top of Pratapgarh Fort features spectacular views of lush Sahyadri hills, valley deep gorges, and meandering rivers. Calm and scenic, this place captures an echo from the past-the perfect setting for photographs and an expedition. It is an ideal destination for nature lovers and history buffs alike who would enjoy the cool breeze and panoramic views.

Trekking Trails Leading to the Pratapgarh Fort

This fort is still in pretty good shape, so it has become a popular tourist spot near Mahabaleshwar. There is a road that can be driven up to the fort's door. People can only see the fort by walking or trekking (about 1 km). It is often included in Mahabaleshwar tour packages, attracting history lovers and adventure seekers alike.

There are small restaurants and a rest house inside the fort for guests to use. From June to October is the best time to go to Pratapgad Fort. You can plan a trip to Pratapgad Fort at any time of the year, but the monsoons are the best time to see the area.

Exploring the different parts of Pratapgarh Fort

•    The structure divides the fort into two sections: the upper fort and the lower fort.

•    The upper fort is located on the hill's crest, measuring approximately 180 m on each side, and includes several buildings, notably the Mahadev Temple.

•    The lower fort, situated at the southeast end, features tall towers and strongholds that are 10-12 m high. It measures around 320 m long and 110 m wide.

•    The Bhavani Temple in the lower fort is a significant place where people believe Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj received a shining sword.

•    Jawaharlal Nehru unveiled a 17-foot-tall bronze statue of Shivaji in November.
