Thirukkadaiyur (also written as Thirukadavur) is a temple town on the east coast of Tamil Nadu, making it one of the notable PLACES TO VISIT IN CHIDAMBARAM. History of Thirukkadaiyur temples
In the 1100s, Chola kings built the temple in Chola style. The 11-acre temple is in good condition. It features five walls, massive towers, and mandapas. These manuscripts indicate that the main shrine (sanctum) dates before the early 11th century. Under Kulottunga Chola I, builders replaced the temple's brick walls with stone and constructed the front mandapa.
When stirring up the milk ocean for Amritham, the devas and asuras forgot to worship Ganesha. Amritham was wounded and her pot stolen at Thirukkadaiyur. While there, Ganesha built a Shiva Lingam and poured Amritham over it. This temple's Shiva Lingam, Amrita Ghat Eshwarar, means 'Lord that leads to immortality. Lord Ganesha is Kalla Vinayagar or Kalaivanar Pilliyar.
