Dhom Dam is a clay dam on the Krishna River in Panchgani, Maharashtra, India. It is near Wai. When it was built in 1976, its primary purposes were irrigation and hydroelectricity. The area around Dhom Dam is filled with lush greenery and a calm atmosphere. It is one of the most peaceful places to visit in Panchgani. This beautiful place is a quiet get-away from the noise and chaos of the city.

Visitors who have the proper licenses can go boating and fishing. During the monsoons, the area looks green and pretty. Dhom Dam is not only under the gaze of tourists but also engaged as an important agricultural and hydroelectric project in the region.

The history of Dhom Dam

The Dhom Dam is a beautiful place in the Panchgani area of Maharashtra, India. It is tucked away in the peaceful Western Ghats. This dam was built in 1976 on the Krishna River. The main reason for building it was to meet the needs of nearby farms and factories. But over the years, it has become a cute spot for nature fans and people seeking peace, putting it on the state's tourist map.

Boating at Dhom Dam

For a peaceful and beautiful place for boating, one must look at the serene Dhom Dam. The vast lake formed by the dam, about 14 km in length and 5 km in width, has wonderfully calm waters which are encircled by hills, an ideal setting for a boat ride. Visitors can enjoy speedboats and family boats, with the rides usually lasting from 10 to 15 minutes.

It is much more pleasant and less crowded to boat here than at the other touristy lakes around. The availability of life jackets is another security feature that ensures the safety of the riders. There exists the Sahyadri Boat Club in the town, which offers water sports and boat rides on the lake.

The motorboat ride costs Rs. 400 for around six persons. Many travelers include this activity in their Panchgani tour packages to enjoy the natural beauty and adventure at the dam.

Best Time to Visit

From October to February, when it's cool and nice outside, is the best time to visit Dhom Dam. The rainy season, which lasts from June to September, is also a good time because the dam is finished and the area is very green. During this time, you can see the beautiful turquoise-blue water. The surrounding mountains add to the breathtaking view. The dam isn't as busy with tourists as some other places, so it's a great place to get away, go fishing, and enjoy nature.

Dhom Dam is a critical irrigation and hydroelectric project and a tranquil tourist destination offering boating and scenic beauty, especially during the cooler months and monsoon season. It is ideal for visitors looking to escape the crowds and enjoy the natural charm of Maharashtra's Western Ghats.
