Somnath, roughly meaning 'lord of the moon', is a pilgrim centre home to one of the 12 Jyotirlingas. It is a town that draws much of its identity from the mythology, religion, and legends surrounding it.

Primarily a temple town, it is a place where a strong scent of religion and legends lingers around tourists and even everyday life. The many churches in the area add to the spiritual atmosphere. Somnath also has beaches, museums, and other things to see and do.

The Somnath temple and Somnath beach are the main places to visit here. Apart from it, Gita Mandir, Balukha Tirtha, Kamnath Mahadev Temple, and Somnath Museum are other places to visit in Somnath.

The Somnath tour package is great for getting away with your loved ones for a spiritual and peaceful break. It is a beautiful place for pilgrims to relax because it is home to some of the most famous churches in the area. There are also beaches and historical sites nearby that will keep you interested.

What is Somnath famous for?

The beautiful temple of the city is in Sagar Kant, Saurashtra, which is in the state of Gujarat. One of the 12 holy Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva can be found here in the city. Rigveda also talks about the famous city.

Which three rivers meet at Somnath?

The city is where the three rivers, Hiran, Kapil, and the mythical Saraswathy, get together. Hindus think these rivers flow to their final destination, the sea, so this place is very holy to them. Hindus see this meeting point as a sign of birth, life, and death.

What is a famous food?

Dairy products like Lassi, Buttermilk, Chaas, and ice creams are famous and readily available. You can also try Gujarati snacks like Dhokla, Khakra, Fafda, Sev, Khandvi and Khaman. Not only snacks but treats like Ghevar, Malpua, Shrikhand, Puran Poli and more.

The best time to visit

Summer is best in Somnath, from June to August. Winter is too cold, from December to March. You should avoid the crowds of tourists and people who come to Somnath, though, if you want to go there when it's not busy. The city is sweltering and humid at these times of the year, so the best time to go is in the winter when the heat is less unbearable.
