It is believed to be one of India's two oldest temples dedicated to Goddess Saraswathi." The other one is in Kashmir.

Why is it famous?

The Saraswathi Temple, which is in Basara, is famous. People dedicate it to Goddess Saraswathi, the goddess of knowledge. Devotees honor Goddess Saraswathi here, making it one of only two places in India where she is revered as a god. Thousands of people visit the temple daily, mostly students who want to get lucky with their studies and knowledge. Visitors can get a full experience with Basara tour packages.

What is the religious significance of Basara?

Myth says that after the Kurukshetra War, Maharishi Vyas, his followers, and the teacher Viswamitra chose to live in a cool, peaceful place. He came to the Dandaka Forest looking for a quiet place to live and chose it because of how calm it was. Because Maharishi Vyasa spent much time praying there, the place was first called Vasara. As the Marathi language spread, its name was changed to Basara.

People believe the Rashtrakutas built it as one of the three churches near the holy spot where the Manjira and Godavari rivers meet. A Karnataka king named Bijialudu is said to have built this old temple at Basar.

The best times to visit Basara

The winter months, from October to March, are the best times to visit Basara. The weather is cool and nice, so it's a great time to visit temples and look around the area. People love November and December because of the big celebrations of Vasant Panchami, which honors Goddess Saraswathi.
