History of Bhavnath Mahadev Mandir

The Bhavnath Mahadev temple has come from ancient times, and its story is in the Puranic era. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is a belief that the Shiva Lingam in this location was created to make this a centre of worship for Lord Shiva. 

According to the story told in many Hindu religious scriptures, Lord Shiva and his beloved Parvati were crossing the Girnar hills when their sacred garment fell on the Mrigi Kund. And the place became a promising location to worship Lord Shiva. 

Even today, naked sadhus bathe in the Mrigi Kund before the Mahashivaratri celebrations to honour the site's cleanliness. The Bhavnath Mahadev temple is so ancient that the origin tale is unknown to most people.
