Three temples comprise the Ambigara Gudi Complex, next to the Durga Temple Complex. The shrine has the name of the past residents known as the Ambiger (boatsmen). It is one of the best places to visit in Aihole.

The shrine is Ambigera Gudi, one of the archaeologically noteworthy temple complexes constructed in the sixth century CE. The central monument, the biggest of the three, is the one it faces. With sloping slaps for the roof cover, the centre monument experiments with an open verandah design concept. Inside the sanctum is the damaged picture of Surya (the Sun god), whose crown is visible.

Architecture

The Ambiger community, boatmen who lived close to the temple, gave the Ambiger Gudi temple its name. This temple complex comprises two minor shrines and the main temple, which is currently in ruins. The idols of Surya and Vishnu in the second temple are broken, and the shrine is small. The third temple is a plain building without any carvings or pictures.

The Ambiger Gudi complex's third monument features Late Chalukya 11th-century design elements but has suffered damage over time. The temple's architecture combines square and cubic shapes, with Dravida-style motifs and a missing capping roof and finial.

The Ambiger Gudi temple is a protected monument in India. It was built in a 3rd-century CE brick temple, possibly predating the stone temple. However, further evidence needs to be included. Also, Chalukyan temple inscriptions from the 6th to 8th century need to mention prior temples in the area.

The best time to visit Ambigara Gudi Complex

The best time to visit Aihole is from October to March since the weather is excellent and visitors have a great time. In December and January, the temperature is only mildly to moderately cold. The months of April through September are scorching and unsuitable for travel. When planning the Aihole tour package, remember to include the Ambiger Gudi temple in your itinerary.
