The pilgrim land was taken over by the eminent Mysore ruler Tipu Sultan during the late eighteenth century. It happened to be renamed as the renowned 'Afesalabad' (pronounced as Faisalabad). Later the prominent ruler Veerarajendra took over Coorg and named it as Bhagamandala.
