Major AttractionsÂ
The dense Western Ghats are home to the Abbi Waterfalls surrounded by lush gardens and plantations of aromatic home-grown coffee. The beauty was once named after the beloved daughter of the first ever British Captain of the famous Madikeri city. Abbey is generally called as the name Jessy which was the name of his lovely daughter. The surrounding spice vegetation was initiated by N. Nanaiah who later re-discovered the mighty falls and brought it under the Coorg district government. The sparkling water of the fall unites with the sacred Kaveririver while exploring the rocky terrains on its way to the ground which makes the splashing of white waters against the rocks a breathtaking view for tourists indeed.
One of the most spectacular experiences here is the draping rope bridge which passes through the dense plantations towards the breathtaking falls. The other end of the famous bridge welcomes you with one among the most worshipped temples of the area, the 'KaaliMaa' temple of the beloved Hindu Goddess.
The waterfall area is well-maintained and very clean but you must plan a trip of not more than half an hour here as the entry to the fall waters is completely restricted with the sturdy fencing, unlike other falls. But one can always enjoy the view from a distance as it is worth remembering.
The most visited duration of the year here is the year-end when the waters of the fall are brimming with rainwater adding an unthinkable volume to it which makes it a prime attraction of Coorg. The site is a must-visit if you want to discover nature from close and spend some decent time with family or even alone. It stands as a prominent feature and is an essential addition to your Coorg Tour Packages.
