About Chunchanakatte falls

With over Three hundred feet of width and over fifty feet of height, the legendary falls named after the couple of the local tribe is among the best tourist places in Mysore. The site is a list topper when it comes to Karnataka Tourism.

Major Attractions

One of the key highlights of the year here is the renowned Brahma Ratotsava during the early month of January which is a much exciting festival of cars celebrated here on every Makar Sankranti. Another one within the month is the famous cattle fest which is a popular highlight here.

The sacred Kaveri falls into the waterfall and separates into two separate cascades and eventually confluences into the dam named Krishna R. Sagar which is a key attraction here. With gallons of water gushing with unmatched power coming from the fertile Deccan Plateau, the hydraulic power is conserved right here which becomes a significant site with its huge churns of milk-like water. Though it is unsafe at the site since the dam water becomes uncontrollable when released. Two smaller Hindu lord Hanumana's temples are built near the very famous Rama temple nearby which are other attractions here. Among the listed destinations to visit, Mysore tour packages encompass Chunchanakatte Falls.

Legend

The major highlight here is the ancient legendary temple of Lord Kodandarama. It is gravely believed that during the tough period of 14-yeared 'Vanvas' (residing in the jungle) of Hindu Lord Rama, his wife Goddess Sita and his brother Lord Laxmana, they stayed with Chunchi and Chuncha, a local couple from the tribes of the forest around. It is said that Sita Mata wanted to take bath and Lord Lakshmana hit the rocks with his divine arrow which resulted into the waterfall. The legend of the sacred temple land goes like that a devoted Rishi met Lord Rama in the woods and he asked for a boon against his devotion towards Narayana. All he wanted was to see SitaJi on the right of Lord Rama and hence the idol was constructed in the same manner within the temple. Visitors confirm that the miraculous temple is naturally soundproof as no noises of the mighty falls nearby can be heard inside.

With one of the most ancient temple structures of the nation and the exciting waterfall and Dam, backed by mythological legends and local stories doing rounds, the Waterfall falls among the best places to visit in Mysore which Karnataka tourism boasts of being one among the most attractive tourist spots of the state and the nation.
