The famous hill Samdruptse is in Namchi, Sikkim. People from all over South Sikkim go there to pray, and it is one of the most popular places to visit in Ravangla.
To get to the top of the hill, you have to walk up a steep road for about 250 m from where you park. One more way to get to Namchi Rock Garden is by aerial cable car. People can go back to the hill after seeing the garden. Around the corner from the monastery gate are a few shops that sell gifts, coffee, tea, and other things. There are also bathrooms nearby.
Giant Guru Padmasambhava Statue
Located at an altitude of 2134 m, Samdruptse Hill boasts a gigantic statue of Guru Padmasambhava at the summit. He is the patron deity of Sikkim. It is the tallest figure in the world, Guru Padmasambhava, measuring 148 feet.
The gold gives it a sparkling look when the sun falls on it. It is pretty with the Kanchenjunga Hills behind it. It was only in 2004 that they completed constructing the figure after His Holiness the Dalai Lama had the foundation stone laid in 1997. The Sikkim government sponsored the construction.
Spiritual and Religious Importance
In English, Samdruptse Hill means "Wish Fulfilling Hill." This is because many local monks worship the hill. They believe it is a dormant volcano that can only stay dormant by being preyed upon. Under the figure is a convent with a beautiful interior and a very peaceful feel.
At the front of the abbey, a large copper prayer wheel stands out. There is a vast prayer hall inside where monks sing songs while they pray. It also has many paintings, sculptures from the past, artifacts, and figures.
Samdruptse Hill Breathtaking Views
The mountain ranges, including Kanchenjunga, the third-highest peak in the world, can be seen from there. Ravangla tour packages often include this stunning view. The figure is surrounded by peaceful areas where you can think. There are also prayer wheels, meditation cells, and the Ngadak Monastery nearby, which adds to the religious feel of the area.
Many people like to climb to the top because they can see for miles and miles of green slopes, woods, and rolling hills. When the weather is clear, seeing the snow-covered mountains shine in a pure white light is beautiful.
The scenery around the temple is also beautiful, with peaceful Buddhist shrines and lush green fields that add to the tranquil mood. The views from Samdruptse Hill will leave you speechless whether you are hiking, relaxing, or just taking in the beauty of nature.
