Tapovan is a naturally diverse region with lush green grasses. It is famous for having the best high-altitude grasslands in India. It is near Gangotri temple and is 4463 meters above sea level. The village is at the base of the Shivling peak. It is also a summer retreat place for many sadhus in caves, huts and villages. 

In the last few years, Tapovan has become a trendy trek destination. It is at a height of 14,64 feet above sea level. It has a rough surface and huge mountains. The place is modern for Gangotri treks, which include a lot of adventure and thrills. The site is a must among the places to visit in Gangotri

How far is Tapovan from Gaumukh?

Begin the 5-kilometer hike from Gaumukh to Tapovan (at 4,460 m), one of the best high-altitude alpine meadows in the region. The trek is challenging, but the visit is worth it. The final kilometer is a near vertical ascent to the summit, crossing the Akash Ganga stream.

Is it worthwhile to go to Tapovan?

The vast and majestic Himalayan mountains surround the place. It is home to several famous waterfalls, including the Neer Garh Waterfall. The waterfall is located 2 kilometers from Tapovan and is suitable for a picnic or a day excursion. The Tapovan should be in your Gangotri tour package.

Many tourists visit the area at the foot of Shivling Peak. Many hikers use this location to begin their journey to Shivling Peak and other summits. Nandanvan is another beautiful spot nearby, a must-visit place, especially for hikers and Hindi devotees.   

What is the story of the Temple?

The discovery of the Temple's actual origins is still going on. Nevertheless, legend has it that it was a place of penance, renunciation, and dwelling for Guru Dronacharya, the Pandavas' and Kauravas' teacher. A giant statue of Lord Shiva awaits you as you enter the Temple.
