History

In 1919, Narendra Shah moved Tehri Garhwal's capital to Narendra Nagar, a popular destination for British Viceroys. The original palace building was designed in 1910 to accommodate visiting Viceroys.

Numerous figures from the past, such as Mrs. Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri, the former Indian prime minister, have visited the royal palace alongside Lord Mountbatten of Burma, the final British viceroy of Bharat.

Manabendra Shah, the final Maharaja, succeeded King Narendra Shah as the ruler of Tehri Garhwal in 1914. The Tehri Garhwal province became one province state (now known as Uttarakhand) after India gained independence.

Why is Narendra Nagar famous?

Narendra Nagar's two main draws are its proximity to Rishikesh and its location along the Gangotri and Yamunotri routes. A spot in your RISHIKESH TOUR PACKAGE is a requirement.

It has also been famous as a hub for spirituality and meditation since ancient times. It is the site, so the tale goes, where the sage Uddhava underwent intense penance. The astrology creator, Purasara, also claimed to have experimented with the motions of stars and planets.

What is the height of Narendra Nagar?

This lesser-known Uttarakhand location is 1322 meters above sea level and hides among dense alpine trees.
