A revered and well-known temple, Sri Neelkanth Mahadev Temple is situated a little far from Rishikesh. One of Lord Shiva's most famous temples, Neelkanth Mahadev Temple, is on a hill at a height of 1330 meters. 

The temple is a well-known pilgrimage site among the PLACES TO VISIT IN RISHIKESH. Neelkanth Temple is next to the Nar Narayan mountain range and above Swargashram. 

Many devotees visit this location in large numbers to show their devotion to the mighty Shiva. Tourists visit mainly during the months of Shrawan and Shivratri. To remove doshas or flaws, in the stars, one can make prayers or have a big Pooja performed by the holy Hindu priests.

Sri Neelkanth Mahadev Temple history

Legend has it that Lord Shiva drank the poison made by Samudramanthan, or the churning of the ocean by devatas and asuras, at the Neelkanth Mahadev Temple in Rishikesh. Shiva thus adopted the moniker "Nilkanth," which translates to "He with a blue throat." In the area where Shiva made his human sacrifice, his followers erected this temple in remembrance. 

As a result, the hallowed location where Lord Shiva would often meditate to relieve the agony caused by the poison in his throat. Furthermore, It has developed into a shrine that draws many devotees from all over the world.
