Saptrishi Kund is a high-altitude lake that is the origin of the Yamuna River. The Champasar Glacier feeds the lake. Saptrishi Kund is situated close to Yamunotri and requires an exhausting hike. The Champasar glacier feeds this glacial lake, which is half a kilometre long and bordered by stony glaciers.

Rugged mountains and glacier peaks flank the lovely lake, and the hiking route takes you through deep forests, beautiful meadows, uncommon Himalayan flora and wildlife, and unusual glaciers. This trek is still relatively unknown, with few trekkers having attempted it. 

Saptarishi Kund Trek is famous as one of Uttarakhand's most demanding treks. The trekkers need assistance with the guide to finish the trek. The hike has no specific paths or campsites, and the terrain is ice-filled. As a result, only experienced hikers should attempt it. 

Mythology of Saptrishi Kund

Hindus consider Saptarishi Kund to be sacred. It is a belief that the Saptarishis, the seven great sages Rishi Kashyap, Atri, Gautama, Viswamitra, Bharadwaj, Vasistha, and Jamadagni, have undertaken penance here. Yamunotri Temple is the first destination on the Char Dham pilgrimage and one of the pilgrimage sites. Yamuna, the Hindu goddess, is honoured here.

The best time to visit 

Saptrishi Kund is best visited between April and June, as well as September and October. The summer months from April to June provide stunning views and perfect and safe trekking conditions. It is also the start of the Char Dham Yatra, so several pilgrims and porters will follow the path to Yamunotri. 

Yamunotri is less crowded in the post-monsoon months of September and October. When the weather is mild, and the vistas are spectacular. Avoid hiking during the rainy and winter seasons. The path is dangerous during the monsoon season, and significant snowfall occurs here in winter.
