The Yamuna River starts at Yamunotri, 30 km from Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand. One of the most important pilgrimages in India, it is part of the well-known Chhota Char Dham yatra, which also includes Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. The Temple, dedicated to Ma Yamuna, is the main thing to see here. From Janki Chatti, you must walk 6 km to get to Yamunotri. You can walk, ride a mule, a palanquin, or a pithoo on the 2.5-hour trip. Most people finish the yatra in one day.

Bali Pass Trek

The Bali Pass Trek, which goes from Har Ki Dun Valley to Yamunotri, is one of the less-visited hikes in the Indian Himalayas. It's one of the best and hardest hikes in Uttarakhand. The Bali Pass is about 4,800 meters high in the Garhwal Himalayan area. It was once a route from the Tons River valley to the Yamuna River valley. Trekkers still come to it during the rainy season, when the snow melts and the pass is more accessible. The pass is easier to get to from the Har Ki Dun valley because the slope is not as steep. Many places to visit in Yamunotri are accessible through this route.

Barkot

Barkot is the last big town near Yamunotri and a beautiful hill station. It is in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. The city is between the Ganga and Yamuna rivers. You can go white water rafting, hike on trails in Barkot, and see the beautiful Bandarpooch Mountain from there. It's also a great place to stop on the Char Dham Yatra, and travel agencies often include it in Yamunotri tour packages.

Hanuman Chatti

Hanuman Chatti is 13 km from Yamunotri in Uttarakhand. It is where the Hanuman Ganga and Yamuna Rivers meet. Many people come here to start their treks to Yamunotri, Darwa Top, and Dodi Tal. There is a Hanuman Temple in Hanuman Chatti. It is also the main draw here. The road to Janki Chatti used to lead to Hanuman Chatti, which was the beginning of the Dham. Seven kilometres have been cut off the hike to places to visit in Yamunotri.

Janki Chatti

From Janki Chatti, you can start your hike to Yamunotri. Walking the six kilometres to Yamunotri takes about two and a half to three hours. You can walk or use a mule, palki (palanquins), or pithoo (carrier), which you can rent from Janki Chatti. It's also well-known for the hot springs where pilgrims swim before they start their walk. The hike to Yamunotri takes one day, and most travellers stay at Janki Chatti. There are a lot of places to eat here that serve north Indian food. Many Yamunotri tour packages recommend staying here for a convenient pilgrimage.

Kharsali

Goddess Yamuna spends the winter in Kharsali, also called Khushi Math. The figure of Ma Yamuna is moved here from Yamunotri Temple on Akshaya Tritiya. It is returned to Yamunotri on Bhai Dooj, along with Lord Someshwara, for the next six months. The small village is just 1 km away from Janki Chatti. The town has beautiful views of the snow-capped Garhwali Mountains that circle it. This spot is among the must-see places to visit in Yamunotri during the winter months.

Saptarishi Kund

At 4421 meters above sea level, Saptrishi Kund is a very high lake. It is a place for hiking near Yamunotri, which is thought to be where the Yamuna River began. Another tough trek in Uttarakhand is the Saptrishi Kund walk. There are no paved roads or places to camp, and the trail is mostly ice-covered. The 16-kilometre hike begins in Janki Chatti and goes by the Yamunotri Temple. The Champasar glacier, in the higher parts of the Champasar mountain range, feeds the Saptrishi Kund. This trek is often included in adventurous Yamunotri tour packages.

Yamunotri Temple

The Yamunotri temple is one of the most popular places to visit in Yamunotri, the old town. It is thought to be where the holy river Yamuna began. It is one of the most important places to see on the Chota Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand. The town and temple are set high up, 3,293 m above sea level, on the western side of the Garhwal Himalayas, which is a huge mountain range.
