Dwarka is in Gujarat. People believe it to be the capital city of Lord Krishna's kingdom. The city, also known as Devbhoomi Dwarka, is the only city in Hinduism that is in both the Char Dham and the Sapta Puris lists. It is one of the best and most popular places to visit in Dwarka.

There is a story that the sea once submerged the city, and discoveries show there was a city here. The name Dwarka comes from the words Dwar, which means "door," and ka, which means "moksha," which means "the door to salvation."

History

Several pieces of proof show that people have been residing in the city since 200 AD. The Hindu classic Mahabharata refers to the holy city.

Hindu myths say that the city was the home of Lord Krishna, and historical records from the 1400s show that this may have been true. People say the Dwarkadhish temple we see today was built in the 1500s.

However, the area's prehistoric past shows that the city was once a submerged land dug up to become what it is today. People say that the Bet/Beyt Dwarka in the area is an important historical place from the Late Harappan period.

Culture of Dwarka

People in Dwarka care a lot about their religion, which shows in their society. Hindu holidays, especially Krishna Janmashtami, which marks the birth of Lord Krishna, are the most important events here. It takes place in the Hindu month of Shravan. Apart from these, festivals like Diwali, Holi, and Dussehra also happen here.

Gujarati is the primary language in the city, but Hindi and English are also widespread. The food is another cultural highlight of the area. Dwarka is an entirely vegetarian city. It serves Gujarati flavours along with local foods and food basics.

What is the famous name of Dwarka?

Hindus visit Dwarka on pilgrimages, which is famous for its churches and is a holy city. The Dwarkadhish Temple, also famous as Jagat Mandir, is a Vaishnava temple in the middle of the town. It is a place worth visiting during the Dwarka tour package.

Is Dwarka under the water?

Archaeologists found many old things and the remains of an ancient city during the survey. Archaeologists found a fortified base between 1983 and 1990. It is a belief that Lord Krishna built the old town on top of this foundation along the river banks.
