As one of the loveliness northern towns of Sikkim, Lachen is indeed a tourist hot spot. It is significant by the shrine called the Lachung Temple. According to its beautiful scenery and peaceful vegetation, it will be considered one of the most interesting and, maybe, the most famous locations for Buddhist pilgrims and visitors. Lachen is a lovely vacation spot with fewer people. It is also famous for being the way to get to the holy Gurudongmar and Tso Lhamu lakes.
Lachen Cultural Significance
Lachen's cultural importance comes from its Buddhist history, its native Lepcha and Bhutia ways of life, and its lively events, such as Losar and Saga Dawa. Traditional music, dance, and crafts, as well as the yearly Thangu Yak Race, show how deeply rooted the customs are in the area.
Scenic Beauty and Landscapes
Two of the best places to visit in Lachen are Thangu and Gurudongmar Lake. At 5,210 m above sea level, this freshwater lake is one of the largest bodies of water in the world. The lake is in the northeast of the Kanchenjunga range, which freezes over entirely in the winter.
The Tso Lhsmo Lake is about 5 km ahead of this one. You can hike from Gurudongmar Lake to Tso Lhsmo Lake if you get permission from the army first. Thangu is a pretty old town in the north of Lachen. This is where most people choose to stop before going to places like Cho Lhamu and Gurudongmar Lake to see the sights.
The best time to visit Lachen
Because of the nice weather, the best time to go to Lachen is from May to September. Lachen tour packages offer a great way to explore this beautiful destination.
