The renowned Ganga river originates in Haridwar. A city in the Indian state of Uttarakhand famed as the "doorway to the gods". According to legend, the city was created when a drop of Amrit fell on earth. A concoction that the gods and demons combined to create.

The city was first referenced in the writings of the Mauryan empire between 32 and 85 B.C. You can also find the reference to the city in Hiuan Tsang's voyage, written in 629 A.D. The water from the Ganga River was stored in jars by Emperor Akbar. He drank from it while travelling since it was believed to confer immortality. Raja Maan Singh is the founder of the current Haridwar. He also constructed two dams on the Ganga River, causing massive significance on the river.
