Mahanandi

Mahanandi is a beautiful village with thick jungle around it. It is to the east of Nallamala Hills. Nine Nandis (Bulls), also famous as Nava Nandis, are within 15 km of Mahanandi. People all over the world know Mahanandi for the Mahanandiswara Temple and the most important places of the Nava Nandis. Mahanandi is one of the best places to visit in Ahobilam.

The clear water in Pushkarini, which runs all year, is what makes this place stand out. You can see a needle at the bottom of the water because it is so clean and clear. The Temple has almost three pools. Two pools are outside of the temple. The third pool inside the temple grounds has a steady flow of water that comes from the bottom of Garbha Gruha, which is where the main deity, Shiva Ling, is located.

History

It is the famous and holy Mahanandiswara Temple, which was in the seventh century and is for Lord Shiva. Chalukyas built the first part of the building in the 7th century, but between the 10th and 15th centuries, many improvements were made. 

The part of the temple that goes over the main hall is in the style of the Badami Chalukyan people, while the rest is in the style of the Vijayanagara people. The story goes that the area's kings, called Nandas, ruled here in the 10th century AD. They built many shrines and worshiped Nandi, their ancestor god, which is where the name Mahanandi comes from.
