The Paavana Narasimha Temple is a Hindu temple in Ahobilam, Andhra Pradesh, that is for Lord Vishnu. There are nine Narasimha temples in Ahobilam, Andhra Pradesh. The Paavana Narasimha Temple is one of the best places to visit in Ahobilam.
The Pavana Narasimha Temple is in the middle of a forest, right next to the River Pavana. People say that this Temple is the quietest of the Nava Narasimha Kshetras. It is a belief that this temple is the Kshetra Ratna, or "jewel among the Kshetras."
Pavana Narasimha is the name of the ruling god. He goes by the name Pamuleti Narasimha Swamy too. It is said that the Lord is sitting with Chenchu Lakshmi on his lap and Adhisesha. He has seven heads above his head. At his feet is Sage Bharadwaj. The ruling god controls the planet Mercury, also known as Budha.
On certain days, this is where the tribes of the jungle meet to sacrifice animals to the Lord outside of the temple grounds. It takes about 1 km to get from the Pavana Narasimha Temple to the Chenchu Lakshmi temple. Since the monk lives next to the temple, Archana can happen here as well. The temple is a must visit during the Ahobilam tour package.
Paavana Narasimha Temple History
Hiranya Samhara was over, and Narasimha went back. He was angry when he saw the beautiful Chenchu Lakshmi in the Ahobilam hills. To show how much he loved Chenchu Lakshmi, he looked all over the mountain for food that wasn't vegetarian. Narasimha liked how pretty she was and wanted to marry her. Every Saturday, people in this area honour this event by giving Lakshmi Narasimha a hen as food at this temple.
She married Lord Narasimha and took Avatharam as Chenchu Lakshmi from a tribe living in the nearby forest. Tribes in the area often come to this temple and give meat to the Lion God because, to them, Lord Narasimhar is like a son-in-law.
People say that Sri Adi Shankara recited (or made) the Narasimha Karavalamaba Stotra here to protect himself from the Kapalika sorcerer, who wanted to offer him as a sacrifice to his Kali.
