Basilica of Bom Jesus

Basilica of Bom Jesus is one of the famous tourist places among the places to visit in Goa. The church was constructed in 1594, though it wasn’t blessed till 1605. Christian belief spread in India with this church’s construction. Bainguinim, nestled in Old Goa, houses this church. The relics of the saint are preserved well. Every ten years, his casket is taken out for people to view, whether Christians or not.

History 

The construction of the Bom Jesus church finished on 15th May 1605 with the efforts of Alexia de Menezes. The saint’s corpse was taken back to Portugal when he passed away. However, it came back and was housed here after a wait of two long years. The magical saint as he was popularly called, rests in a mausoleum at this church. His remains are preserved inside a coffin, and the public can view it when they come to this Basilica.

There is a particular attire of this church. For men, sleeveless t-shirts and shorts are not allowed. For ladies, no beachwear, deep cut dresses, and shorts are not allowed. If ladies wear shoulder less clothes, then they have to carry a stole to get an entry in this church.
