Situated somewhat in the borders, the Rukmini Temple honors the queen of Lord Krishna. Although the temple may have undergone reconstruction, its estimated age is approximately 2500 years. The current temple is from the twelfth century. It is a spot worth visiting among the places to visit in Dwarka.

Though its architecture and sculptures are far more subdued than Dwarkadhish, it still arouses the same intense devotion. The sanctum contains the primary Rukmini statue, while the exteriors are adorned with carvings of gods and goddesses. The panels at the platform's base are decorated with carved images of Gajadhar’s (elephants) and Naratharas (human figures).

History

The several addresses for the temple of Lord Krishna and his Queen, Rukmini, have so many intriguing mythologies. According to legend, sage Durvasa asked Krishna and Rukmini to pull a chariot so he could have dinner at their home.

While travelling, Rukmini requested water to relieve her thirst. Lord Krishna poked the earth with his toe, and the Ganges River materialized. Rukmini slaked her desire but neglected to inquire if the sage would also want water. That Durvasa would live apart from her spouse infuriated and cursed her.

Why does no one worship Rukmini?

According to many devotees, she symbolized Krishna's human love, whereas Radha represented his divine love. Many claim that Rukmini was also a well-known manifestation of Goddess Lakshmi. Still, she had to be present for him to do so.

Why is Rukmini Temple famous?

It is a belief of devotees that praying at the temple brings prosperity and serenity into their lives. Richly carved images of many Hindu deities embellish the temple's magnificent construction. The idol of the previous deity, Goddess Rukmini, is in the sanctum Sanctorum. It is one of the most popular locations in Dwarka tour packages.

Why is Rukmini Temple away from Dwarka?

Rukmini found relief from her thirst as the Ganga River emerged from that location. But she was so thirsty that she neglected to give Guru Durvasa the water. He became enraged by this and swore that they would never be together. The Rukmini Devi Temple is located apart from Dwarka for this reason.
