History
The Samudra Narayan Temple honours Goddess Gomti and is located where the River Gomti and the Arabian Sea meet. The tale states that Rishi Vasishtha brought River Gomti down from heaven to sanctify Rama following his fight with Ravana.
Goddess Gomti appeared here on the ghat following Rama's cleansing and then sank into the Arabian Sea. The temple houses exquisite idols of Lord Varuna, Samudra Deva, Mira Bai, and Mother Asta Bhavani in addition to Goddess Gomti. The temple has a sacred tank, or kund, where a number of ritual sacrifices are made.
