Chinese Fishing Nets

The Chinese Fishing Nets is a mandatory tourist attraction in Kerala and one of the best places to visit in Kochi. These are mainly permanent land settings that are used for fishing purpose uniquely. These Chinese nets are attached to teak and bamboo poles and holding it horizontally by massive mechanisms. These nets are appended in this way to drag the nets into the sea. The Chinese nets are weighed by huge stones, that are tied to ropes. A team of six fishermen handles the vast fishing net. The height of these nets is near about 10 meters. Each of the nets is sprawled to 20 meters on the water body. The nets can’t be used repeatedly in tidal waters for the static operating depth. According to the state of the tide, various Chinese fishing nets are used.

History

The Chinese fishing nets are a mandatory view to experience among Kochi tourist places. According to local information, it is supposed that the Chinese fishing nets were brought in Fort Kochi by the Chinese explorer. The Chinese fishing nets were brought from the court of Kublai Khan, who was a Chinese emperor.

How do Chinese fishing nets work?

The technique of fishing by Chinese fishing nets is very different from other ordinary fishing nets. For this unique technique, Chinese fishing nets are famous in Kochi tourism. During fishing with Chinese fishing nets, the nets are immersed in the sea and kept for some minutes. After a few minutes, the fishing nets are dragged out of the sea at once by six fishermen. During this fishing technique, all of the six fishermen have to hold down the same balance while dragging up the net from the sea.

In Cochin Harbour, there are several usages of Chinese fishing nets. In Kochi, the main fishing accessories are also made from these Chinese fishing nets. Moreover, these Chinese fishing nets are used to cover the water at sunset, that is a pleasant scene to the travelers. The best time to visit the Chinese Fishing nets is the months of October to March.

Among tourists of Ford Kochi, the Chinese fishing nets have become so popular. The size and elegant construction of these Chinese fishing nets are photogenic. The slow rhythmic operation of these Chinese fishing nets is hypnotic enough. To experience this captivating view must include the Chinese fishing nets in your Kochi tour package.
