Thrikkakara Vamana Temple

The Thrikkakara Vamana Temple is located in Kerala, in the Cochin district. In ancient Hindu mythology, Lord Vishnu is one of the supreme Gods, and he came as a mortal to the Earth in many incarnations. One such incarnation was Lord Vamana, towards whom this temple is dedicated. The Travancore Devaswom Board is the administrating body of this temple. The Thrikkakara Vamana Temple is one of the significant places to visit in Kochi when on tour to Kerala.

History

As stated, Lord Vishnu took the form of Lord Vamana and came to Earth to save the Gods. King Mahabali was an Asura, and he strived hard to rule with power and authority. Lord Vamana disguised himself as a Brahmin and wanted the king to grant him three land pieces. When Mahabali gave his consent, Lord Vamana took over his original form, also known as Trivikrama. Lord Vamana took Heaven and Earth with his two steps. As for the third step, Mahabali offered his head.

Ever since its inception, this temple has been one of the top Kochi tourist places.

Architecture

The complex surrounding the temple has beautiful natural scenery, and the primary deity resides in the main sanctum. The representation of Lord Vamana is in his stepping over the head of King Mahabali. The temple is said to be established by Lord Vamana Himself. The earliest dates recorded in the temple correspond to 861 AD, where records of Onam celebrations are found. This states that this temple has been a part of ancient Kochi tour package as well.

The outer complex houses the Brahmaraksha shrine. Chuttuvilakku or surrounding lamps are surrounding the entire inner walls. Kapilatheertham, the holy pond is for the priests. Another pond is located outside the temple in the North. Naimishaaranyam is the cultural hall present in the temple complex. Any Kochi tourist places will cover these major parts of the temple.

Festivities

There is an auditorium in the Thrikkakara Vamana Temple, and it is used for the Onam feast, as well as for conducting meetings and weddings.
