Marine Drive

In the prime location of Kochi, lies the Marine Drive. This is one of the must-visit places to visit in Kochi. The scenery is beautiful, and the background of waters attracts a lot of people from both local and outside areas.

In any Kochi tour package, the inclusion of Marine Drive is a must. In the shores of Vembannattu Kayal, lies the walkway extended to 3 km, which is known as the Marine Drive. Visitors come to this place mainly to hang out, and to check out the restaurants, shopping malls and local shops in the area.

History

Before 1980, the Shanmugham Road near the Kochi Lake was known as the Marine Drive. The Greater Cochin Development Authority proposed the Marine Drive project based on the Marine Drive present in Mumbai. The name was kept the same as on public demand. As of present, the Marine Drive is one of the significant Kochi tourist places that consists of the walkway, western side of Shanmugham Road, and a part of Kochi Lake.

Things to Explore

The main reason why Marine Drive is an integral part of Kochi tourism is because of the boating facilities at the Vembannattu Kayal. Government and private agencies run boating and even cruise services. Elite cruise, including dinner at evening and night, is also available.

Another main attraction point of Marine Drive is its Rainbow Bridge. This is a bridge constructed in the shape of a half-bent arch, and it is colored with the rainbow lights. At night, this place is one of the best places to be because of the visuals. The visitors get the opportunity to seat near the area so that the brilliance of the Rainbow Bridge can be enjoyed.

As for the shopping lovers, the GCDA shopping complex in Marine Drive is a treat for the tourists. There are varieties of items present, and the shopping experience is very satisfying. The food and dishes are also delightful, and food ranging from continental cuisines to traditional cuisines is present.
