The Tribal Heritage Village of En Ooru is in Pookode, in the Wayanad district of Kerala. It is a must-see place to visit in Wayanad.

On the mountain, the Departments of Tourism and Scheduled Tribe Development of Wayanad worked together to build En Ooru. It is also famous as En Uru Tribal Village. It is estimated that 10 crores were spent on its construction. Spread over 25 acres, the main objective of the centre is to impart knowledge on the rich history and culture of the tribals to the people who will visit here.

Cultural Significance and History

It is worth noting that En Ooru was the first native village in Kerala. It is similar to well-known cultural hubs like Shilparamam in Hyderabad, Dakshina Chitra in Chennai, and Auroville in Puducherry. The town is a beautiful example of the native culture and way of life of the Wayanad tribal group.

One of the best things about it is that it has 10 hay-covered native huts spread out over two acres of land. There are also sixteen booths selling gifts and handmade goods made by tribal artists.

Along with a 300-seat open-air theatre, the village has a felicitation centre. In this shop, guests can learn about traditional medicines, a history trail, a children's park, and a warehouse for storage.

This place is also charming because it has two cafeterias and a Kudumbasree unit that serves food from different cultures. The tribal village not only brings more tourists to Wayanad, but it also offers a beautiful setting for upcoming camping events, tribal festivals, and food festivals.

Exploring the Surrounding Nature

The town has brought the tribal community a lot of happiness because they now have a stable place to sell their goods. So we can loosely survey that tribal artists will have a constant income. Apart from imparting the knowledge of organic farming and food processing, this heritage village is a key place for keeping this knowledge of traditional practices alive. The center indeed has numbers of opportunities openly and indirectly for many.

Best Time to Visit En Ooru

Visit En Ooru Wayanad any time of the year except during the rains to get the most out of it. Wayanad tour packages offer incredible experiences, but Kerala receives a lot of rain during June, July, and August. Most places that tourists like to visit are closed at this time.
