Narendra Pushkarini is located at a mere distance of 1 kilometer from Jagannath Puri Temple and 2.5 kilometers from Puri junction. Narendra Dev built the tank in the 15th century AD and took the responsibility of the kingdom with Purushottama. The tank houses a small temple, namely Chandana Mandapa, connecting the southern bank with a bridge. There are many small and big temples surrounding it, and the tank is spread over a vast area with an island in the middle. The water level inside the tank is around 10ft below the road level. The tank covers 16 ghats which provide ample opportunity for the pilgrims to take a holy bath and the feature of the main ghat is that the flight of stairs consists of Khondalite. The tank was in the middle of the Suryavamsi period (15th century AD). It stands on revenue plots number 117 and 199 and covers an area of 14.533 acres. The water level of Narendra Pushkarini is 10 feet below the road level. There are 16 ghats present in the tank, out of which the names of 14 ghats come after the 14 sons of Narendra Deva. There are three ghats in the north, six ghats in the south (including the main ghat), three ghats in the east, and four in the west.

The main ghat has a flight of stairs that consists of Khondalite Stone, and the approximate depth of the tank is around 28 inches. The Narendra Pushkarini tank is nearly square, with an island in its center holding a small temple. The name is Chandana Mandapa which is connected with a bridge by which the famous moving deity of Lord Jagannath is brought for 21 days during Chandana Yatra.

Festivals of Narendra Pushkarini

One of the festivals celebrated in Narendra Pushkarini is the Chandana Pushkarini. This is the tank in which people celebrate the world-famous Chandana Yatra of Lord Jagannath annually in the Baisakhi month of the Hindu calendar. The deities are first applied with Chandana and then washed with the sacred water of the tank. Then the big and small avatars are taken out of their temples and floated in the lake's holy water.
