The city of Pushkar is a well-known sacred site for the followers of the Sikh religion. Likewise, one of the places of religious importance here is the famous Gurudwara Singh Sabha which is a subsidiary of the Singh Sabha residing in Ajmer. It is one of the PLACES TO VISIT IN PUSHKAR that would offer a great sense of peace and beauty. Tourists include the tour of the Gurudwara Singh Sabha in various AJMER PACKAGES across sites.
Gurudwara Singh Sabha History:
According to historical references, the two most famous Sikh Gurus, namely, Guru Nanak Dev (in the year 1509) and Guru Gobind Singh (in the year 1706), visited the Gurudwara Singh Sabha. They visited this place during their travels to the Rajputana states. When Guru Gobind Singh came to Pushkar, a priest called Chetan Das greeted and served him indeed. He stayed at the ghat for one day. Thus, the name of this particular ghat came after him, the Gobind Ghat. But it has now been renamed Gandhi Ghat. However, Gobind Ghat is still written and engraved on a stone slab below a certain kiosk in Gurumukhi, Devanagari, and Persian and Roman characters.
Description and Architecture:
The Gurudwara Singh Sabha is a majestic, white, two-storeyed building indeed. First, a building structure was placed in the 19th century to honour the two Sikh Gurus who visited this place. The destruction of this original structure happened for reconstruction. And, then the building of the structure again took place using white marble, which is the one that you can see today. Inside, a Brahmin priest with long hair and a turban is present with a ‘hukamnama’ written on a Bhoj Patra( Birch leaf or bark), which is believed to be the same presented to Mahant Chetan Das by Guru Gobind Singh on his visit. A ‘hukamnama’ is actually a hymn from the Guru Granth Sahib, given as an order to Sikhs or a historical order by the Sikh Gurus. The priest also possesses a handwritten copy of the Guru Granth Sahib or the holy Sikh text.
