About the Pushkar Camel Fair:

The Pushkar Camel Fair, also known as ‘Kartik Mela’ or ‘Pushkar ka Mela’. It is the annual livestock fair and cultural fete of Pushkar. Originally started as a fair to attract local camel and cattle and horse traders for business, this fair now attracts thousands of people from India and abroad.

There are several activities that the authority arranges in the Pushkar Camel fair for people to take part in, such as tug of war, dance and singing competitions. Some unique and amazing contests and competitions include the ‘longest moustache competition’, the ‘bridal competition’, the ‘matka phod’ competition and so on. Among all these, the competition that attracts most of the audience is that of the mighty camel race and dance. Huge carnivals reflect there, which feature musicians, snake charmers, acrobats and beautiful carousel rides. Camels are often dressed up with ornamental sheets and jewellery and are adorned with various local draperies, which is a beautiful sight that demands several pictures. The fair also includes various bazaars that sell myriad things that one can explore, along with the obvious presence of several delicious food stalls.

The Pushkar Camel fair takes place near the bank of the Pushkar river, where one can also witness the beautiful ‘Aarti ceremony’, which represents an offering to the Gods. Rajasthan Tourism Agencies provide tourists with a list of events in line during the fair so that they can plan and attend them accordingly.
