One of the most famous temples in Rajasthan is the Rangji temple, located in Pushkar. It is a dedication to Lord Vishnu, Avatar Lord Rangji. It is believed that in 1823, the temple was contracted by Seth Puran Mal Ganeriwal of Hyderabad. Idols of various other gods are also inside it, like Goddamaji, Goddess Laxmi, Lord Krishna, and Shri Ramanujacharya. The Old Rangji temple is one of Pushkar's best places to visit

The temple is one of the most famous tourist spots in this part of the country, where followers come and pray, giving homage to the temple's deities. The temple is in one of the most famous Rajasthani cities of Pushkar, known for it’s close to 400 astounding-looking temples. Therefore, many people view it as a city one should take advantage of as a tourist.

Old Rangji Temple Historical Background

The Rangji Temple is for Lord Ranga, who is a form of Lord Vishnu. The temple is thought to have been built in 1823 by a man from Hyderabad named Seth Puran Mal Ganeriwal. The design of Rangji Ji's temple is a mix of Mughal and Rajput styles. The tall Gopuram, which makes the whole temple look even more beautiful, also showcases South Indian design.

Architectural Style of Old Rangji Temple

The Sri Rangnath Venugopal Temple is an exciting blend of temple architectural styles: the Dravidian style in South India and the Nagara style of temple architecture in Rajasthan. Due to minute carvings adorning the temple, the yellow and peach stones nicely shine. It was the first temple of the South Indian Ramanuja Vaishnava Sect, made way back in 1844 AD in Rajasthan.

The temple was patronized in 1823 AD by the wealthy merchant of Hyderabad, Seth Puranmal Ganeriwal. A vast entrance door has fading frescoes, gopurams, and Rajasthani 'chhatris' mounted atop the entrance wall. The temple has two gatekeeper structures apart from a big 'gopuram' at the entrance. The core shrine has three Krishna, Rangnathji, and Ramanujacharya chambers. On either side of the idol, Rukmini & Satyabhama also accompany Lord Krishna.

Festival Celebrations

The Old Rangji Temple is full of activity during festivals. The major festival celebrated here is the Brahmotsavam. It is a big celebration that lasts for several days. During the festival, people decorate the temple with lights and flowers and perform special prayers and rituals. Everybody comes together from far and near to have a share of fun in the celebrations. It provides an opportunity to be amidst India's rich culture and tradition.

The best time to visit

Everyone is welcome to visit the temple at any time of the year, but November through February is the best time. If you compare this time of year to other months, the weather is calm and not as hot. People who follow the temple can also participate in several events in and around it throughout the year. The temple is a must-visit during the Pushkar tour package.
