The GOF
Covering an area of Sixty six hectares, this breathtaking marine site in the Gulf (G) of (O) Munnar (M) can be found to the West of the renowned bridge of Pamban. The GOF in itself is comprised of a string of whopping Twenty-one mini-Islands with a maddening combined range of marine species. The GOF alone is home to over a hundred varieties of stony corals. Managed well by the TN Fisheries, the island is definitely an extremely rich Reserve of marine life.

The fantastic flora and fauna

The magnificent site is brimming with an unthinkable range of aquatic species including those of the crabs, marine algae, stingrays, dugongs, volutes, starfish, sea anemones, whelks, oysters and a lot many other things. The Olive Ridleys and Hawkbills are also found here in great numbers. The rare set of dolphins can be found dancing in the waters of the spectacular Island including the graceful Finless Porpoise, the rare bottle-nosed one, and several others. Talking of Marine life, it is an obvious fact that the island is full of fish species that go up to over 500 in number.

How to get permission to visit Kurusadai Island

Located off Mandapam, the island is home to many species of coral and other marine life like dolphins. Visitors wanting to make a trip here need to get a permit from the Director of Fisheries Department located in Chennai.
