Agni-Teertham: The Name
The name of the site was kept on the basis of this mythological story of the Hindu Goddess Sita. After she was rescued by Lord Rama from the evil Ravana, her chastity was being questioned. In order to prove her chastity, Sita Mata decided to go through a pyre of burning fire. While performing that, the goddess remembered Lord Shiva and she came out, untouched by the fire. This became the origin of the sacred site's name- 'Agni' (fire) 'Teertham' (pilgrimage).
