About Dhanushkodi
Known across the globe after the 1964 cyclone of Rameshwaram is this small village at the brink of Rameshwaram known as the Dhanushkodi. It is a prime attraction of RAMESHWARAM TOURISM because of the breathtaking site at the very top of this village in the extreme south of India. It is definitely a key place when it comes to listing the places to visit in Rameshwaram. and also among the places to visit under the Rameshwaram Packages.
Legend
The legend says that on the waters of Dhanushkodi was the bridge built by the mythological Vanar (Monkey) Sena under the leadership of Lord Rama, Lord Hanuman and Lord Lakshmana. On this bridge itself, the Sena passed in order to reach the demon Ravana's Lanka where he had kept Goddess Sita after abducting her.
When to explore?
The ideal time to make the most of the million dollars ride taking you straight towards the lap of the Bay of Bengal is the winter season ranging between the months of November and February. The soft cold breeze smothering your face on the way will be a pleasing experience in this weather.

More about the place
Dhanushkodi is located just a twelve-kilometre drive away from Rameshwaram which can be conveniently reached using any means of transportation specifically till the check-post. Once you reach the post you will be made to switch your vehicle to a highly modified jeep transformed in a way that allows you to travel through the thick sand. The journey is about two hours long. However, the rail bridge which was a prime attraction and a convenient way of transportation got destroyed in the cyclone.
Dhanushkodi Temple
This quaint hamlet comprised of fishing folk is home to many temples like Shri Dhanushkodi, Shri Murugeshan, and Shri Nilayamvari temples. Among these, the Dhanushkodi Temple is one of the oldest, dating back to 500 or 1000 years. Visitors coming here can see Lord Rama’s idol with his hand holding his bow. Its also known as Kothandaramaswamy Temple.
Dhanushkodi Beach
The deserted and sandy beach at Dhanushkodi looks pristine and is perfect for such people that love seclusion and some quiet. Talking a long walk along the shores of this beach is a wholesome experience.

Unfortunately, there is no facility for accommodation here and you must return to Rameshwaram before night.
