Bala Brahma Temple is the largest and most impressive of the Navabrahma group of temples. It is also famous as Bala Brahmeswara Temple, located close to Jogulamba Temple. This temple stands out among the places to visit in Alampur as the only one where experts have discovered the bulk of the sculptures in good condition.
History and Religious Significance of Bala Brahma Temple
For six hundred years, people kept a figure of Goddess Jogulamaba in a simple shrine before building the new temple in 2005. The navagrahas are located on the southern side of the shrine. On the outside ends of the roof, there are substantial Nandi statues. Many smaller shrines around this temple, such as Samiswara, Sahasra Lingeswara, Jambukeswara, Nataraja, Mahishasura Mardhini, Moksheswara, and others.
Architectural Details of Bala Brahma Temple
In the seventh century, Chalukya King Pulakesi II built the temple. During the time of Vikramaditya, in 755 AD, it had a lot of new parts. Architects built the temple in the Nagara style and included a big verandah with columns on both sides for pradakshinas who live outside. The temple has a walkaround shrine, maha mandapa, and big mukha mandapa, suitable for internal pradakshinas. The Shiva linga is shown in this building as the footprint of a bull.
Entrance into the sanctum sanctorum has photographs of Goddess Lakshmi, Ardhanareeswara, Vinayaka, Kalabhairava, and other gods. It has Dwarapalakas and Lions also. It has a big Shiva dancing on the roof and Mahishasura Mardhini, Saptamatrukas, Indra, Agni all carved all over the inside of the circle. On the pillar, it has a picture of Yogamurthi worshipping Lord Shiva. There is a big bull figure in the maha mandapa. There are statues of Kanyakumari, Hanuman, Ganesha, Umamaheswara, and other gods on the inner circumambulatory walk.
Festivals and Rituals at the Temple
People built the Bala Brahmeswara Swamy temple to honor Lord Shiva. Tour operators often include it in Alampur tour packages, and tourists frequently visit it, especially during the Maha Shivratri festival.
