The Vishwa Brahma Temple is a place to visit in Alampur that is situated near Kurnool, in the Jogulamba Gadwal District of Telangana, India. This temple is one among the few temples dedicated to Lord Shiva, taking its place in the Navabrahma Group of Temples made up of nine temples.

People are aware of Alampur due to the presence of a group of temples. The Historical Survey of India classifies these temples as historical and architectural jewels under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act.

Architecture Vishwa Brahma Temple

This temple is in the northern corner, next to the museum and across from the Vira Brahma temple. Its style is similar to that of the Galaganatha Temple in Pattadakal. The temple has a big maha mandapa with 18 columns leading to the entrance. They built this temple on a raised platform, and it doesn't have a mukhamandapa. Pradakshinas can walk around the inner chamber on a road that goes around it.

The sanctum, often featured in Alampur tour packages, is supported by four pillars carved with scenes from the Ramayana, Gandharvas, lions, and other animals. The roof features beautiful images of Nagabandha and a lotus flower. The shrine's entry depicts Gajalakshmi, Ganga, and Yamuna, along with their animals, a crocodile and a tortoise.

Historical Significance of Vishwa Brahma Temple

These temples Alampuram were built in the 7th century AD by the Badami Chalukyas. They are, however, amongst the primary associations with early Hindu temple architecture. The Chalukyas were not only known for their contributions in the arts and architecture but also for the introduction of the early Nagara style.

This style is reflected in both the design and layout of these temples. Among this list, Vishwa Brahma temple stands out as one of the best-preserved examples. They display intricate carvings that reflect the craftsmanship in that era.

Sculptural Highlights of the temple

Sculp tures and paintings inside the temple feature scenes of the Hindu epics such as the Mahabharata and Ramayana. Different forms of Shiva and other mythic stories are also portrayed.

The name "Brahmesvara" comes from a story in which Lord Shiva's blessings on Lord Brahma after he'd done a lot of work endow Lord Brahma with the power to make everything, and it is an essential connection at the Vishwa Brahma Temple.

The Skanda Purana mentions Alampur, which is thought to be holy. Some think it is the same as Dakshina Kailasam, Dakshina Kasi, and Sangama Kshetram.
