Neelkanth Peak, also known as Neelakant, Neelkanth, Nilkanth, or Nilkanta, is a significant mountain located in the Uttarakhandi Himalayas' Garhwal region. Standing at 6507 meters above sea level, it is one of the most significant and highly esteemed peaks in the area because of its close vicinity to Badrinath. It looks out over the picturesque Alaknanda River valley.

Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful summits in the Garhwal Himalaya, this snow-capped Himalayan peak rises just above the Badrinath Temple. Neelkanth has two glaciers: the Panpatia Glacier, which feeds Khirao Ganga, a tiny stream that runs beneath the peak on the south side, and the Satopanth Glacier, which is located on the northwest side.

Neelkanth Peak story

One of the many titles of Lord Shiva, one of the most venerated Hindu gods, is Nilkanth. There once was no Nilkanth mountain, so the mythology goes. There would be a path that connected Kedarnath and Badrinath temples. But because of the priest's transgressions, Lord Shiva became enraged and built a high mountain between Badrinath and Kedarnath.

How far is the climb to Neelkanth peak?

Beginning in Badrinath, the Nilkantha walk spans 10 km. The three-kilometer trek from Badrinath to Charan Paduka is gorgeous, and there are Lord Vishnu's footprints and the Rishi Ganga Falls to see. The 6-kilometer hike to Neelkanth Base Camp from Charan Paduka is a little difficult.

Neelkanth Peak height

One of the main peaks in the Garhwal Himalayas is Mount Neelkanth. Standing at 6,507 meters (21,340 ft) is the peak.  It goes by the name "Garhwal Queen" as well. Neelkanth peak is one of the most appealing place to visit in Badrinath.
