As its name implies, Tapt Kund is a hot spring between the Alaknanda River and the shrine of Badrinath. This hot spring is near the Badrinath shrine in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district. At 45 degrees, the Taptakund is a naturally occurring hot spring.

Despite the bitter cold and snowfall, Tapt Kund is famous for its hot springs and for being the home of Agni Deva. The 'Garur Shila' is the source of Taptakund's water, which enters a concrete stone tank. Karnaprayag, Nainisain, Kandara, Khatyari, and Srinagar are the cities that are in the vicinity. You have to include the site in your Badrinath tour package.

Just before the Badrinath temple entrance, on the right, is where you'll find the hot spring. It is located close to the Badrinath temple. It allows worshipers to fulfill the customary practice of taking a dip before visiting the sacred sanctuary. The Tapt Kund is on the right, directly before the Badrinath temple.

Tapt Kund history

Hindu mythology states that because of Lord Agni's sincere penance, Lord Vishnu was pleased and blessed Agni Dev, allowing him to live in this kind and next to the Badrinath Temple. According to Hindu mythology, if a devotee follows their ancestors' rites in the Kund, the ancestors' departed souls travel to paradise and rest in peace.

Beneath Tapt Kund is another Kund known as Narad Kund. The current image of Badri Narayan is thought to have been discovered by the renowned saint Adi Shankaracharya, so it is highly revered in Hinduism and has significant religious significance.

It is forbidden for devotees to bathe in this Kund, and it is regarded as highly holy. Five large stones known as Panch Shila encircle the Kund area and are believed by pilgrims and devotees to be hallowed. Therefore, if you visit Badrinath, don't forget to do "Agni Teerth," which is said to atone for all your sins.

What is the temperature of the Kund?

At 45 degrees, the Tapta kund is a naturally occurring hot spring. The pilgrims are drawn to Tapt Kund because of its medicinal qualities. It is thought that taking a sacred bath in Tapt Kund may heal any physical disease.

The pilgrims hold that taking a holy dip in its hot spring waters provides blessings and cleanses the soul. As such, it is customary to do so before visiting the Badrinath shrine. Tapt Kund is a must-explore among the place to visit in Badrinath.
