Kutch Fossil Park is a museum located in Gujarat's Haripar village. It is one of India's most unique museums and one of the top places to visit in Bhuj.
The most impressive fossil here is of a dinosaur and its egg. It was collected in bits and pieces over time and reconstructed to create a decent shape. It recently discovered a sea cow fossil, which was recreated with the help of the Roorkee Institute of Technology. The species is currently famous as Dommingia Soda in his honour. The Kutch Fossil Park is a must-visit place during the Bhuj tour package.
This park is in the desert, far from the city, with eco-friendly surroundings. The entrance to the modest park is filled with fossils of trees and other beings. The inside is beautiful and charming, and it is a picnic location with good views of the surrounding area. There is no admittance fee, and the establishment depends entirely on contributions.
History
The Kutch Fossil Park has been in existence since 2002 by the visionary Mohan Sinh Sodha. He worked alone and is still adding to the collection of fossils in the tiny two-room exhibition space. He's been doing this for nearly four decades, since his initial encounter with a fossil called Ammonite in the 1970s.
The finding of that fossil altered his life, and he gathered a wide variety of fossils, including plants, fruits, gems, animals, and reptiles.
