Sharad Baug Palace is a royal palace on Sanjog Nagar Road in Bhuj, on the eastern end of Hamirsar Lake. It is one of Bhuj's royal palaces and a must-see attraction on the Bhuj tour package.
The museum has so many types of paintings and handicrafts. It also has sports trophies won by the members of the family. Madansingh Jadeja's souvenirs also have several intriguing artefacts.
The two massive stuffed tigers shot by the former Maharao, as well as his coffin, are the most notable displays here. With lovely gardens of many floral and medicinal plants, the palace grounds attract many migrating birds as they rest on their trip. The Sharad Baug Palace is among the places to visit in Bhuj.
History of Sharad Baug Palace
Sharad Baug Palace was erected in 1867 and is in the heart of Sharad Baug Park. It is one of Bhuj's most popular attractions. Sharad Baug was the royal home till the death of Madansingh, the last king of Kutch, in 1991.
The palace is a magnificent example of a blend of Indian and Italian architectural styles. The sitting room, living room, and bedroom take up the majority of the palace's space, while the dining room is elsewhere. The furniture has an Italian flavour, while the tapestry on the walls is entirely Indian.
Architecture
Bhuj has numerous such structures that will transport you back in time when you visit them. However, none have the exotic allure of the Sharad Baug Palace. The Sharad Baug Mahal is rarely discussed in tourist circles because of a lack of adequate advertising. It is a magnificent masterpiece of architecture that exhibits a blend of Indian and Italian styles.
The palace lost the majority of its third floor to the 2001 earthquake, and the remaining lower floors are not open to tourists. However, the neighbouring former dining hall now houses the palace's diverse museum collection.
