A significant temple in Somnath is famous as Bhalka Tirth or Bhalka Teerth. It is on the way to Veraval and is one of Gujarat's most important pilgrimage sites. It is also one of the most famous places to visit in Somnath.
A beautiful temple and an old peepal tree will never forget this holy Leela of Bhagavan Shri Krishna. There are beautiful statues inside and outside the temple. There is an excellent figure of Krishna playing his flute inside the temple. In this temple, there is also a figure of the hunter Jara in front of Lord Krishna. Many Somnath tour packages include a trip to the Bhalka Teerth.
A temple was built next to this pipal tree, and inside are sculptures of the hunter pleading with Krishna to forgive him. With help from the Central Government of India, this place is being fixed up. This mythical place doesn't have any classes to rest or stay.
History of Bhalka Teerth
The Bhalka Teerth Temple is a shrine to Lord Sri Krishna. People think that this is where the hunter Jara accidentally shot an arrow at the feet of Lord Krishna, which caused the Lord to leave this world for his home in heaven.
Mythology says that Lord Krishna meditated here under a Peepal tree. Then, Jara, the hunter, shot right through the Lord's foot because he thought it was a deer's. God's feet started to bleed when the arrows hit them. The hunter then realised what he had done wrong and asked God to forgive him.
This event, which marks the end of the Dwapara Yuga, indicates Krishna has left Earth. This journey is famous as Bhalka Tirth because the word "Bhal'' means "arrow."
A hunter's shot hit Lord Krishna, and he had to walk a few kilometres to make it to Dehotsarg. He took a bath in the Triveni Sangam and then buried his body at Dehotsarg.
