What is the history of the Gita Mandir?
The Birla Group constructed the current Gita Mandir structure in 1970 and devoted itself to Lord Shri Krishna. According to legend, Gita Mandir is right where Lord Sri Krishna rested after walking from Bhalka Teerth to Triveni Teerth on his way to Neej Dham at Dehotsarg.
At the end of the Dwapara Yuga, he fell by an arrow and left this world. From this place, Lord Krishna went to heaven.
The Gita Mandir is famous for its beautiful building, which is made of white marble. The idol of Lord Krishna is in the sanctum safely. Two statues of Lord Laxminarayan and Lord Sita-Ram stand on either side of the main god.
People have carved the outline of Lord Shri Krishna here to honour the holy Shri Krishna Neejdham Prasthan Leela. People know the Mandir for the 18 marble poles that hold up a picture of the Bhagavad Gita. There are beautiful paintings of Lord Krishna all over the inside of the building. Because it was built out of marble, the temple is so loud you can hear his words.
What is the Gita temple famous for?
Lines from the Gita cover the main room, hence the name "Gita Temple". The depiction of Arjuna on a chariot with his mentor and friend Krishna is fascinating and inspirational. A temple worth including in the Somnath tour package.
