The Kamnath Mahadev Temple is an old Hindu temple in the Gujarat town of Somnath. It is close to the Triveni Sangam Ghat. The temple is one of the most critical sites in Somnath and one of the places all Somnath Packages must include. It is right next to Panch Pandav Gufa.

In Gujarat, this is a very well-known place of worship. People from all over India come to this spot at the end of the month of Shravan. At the end of Shravan, a big fair takes place, which marks the end of this holy time. It is another famous pilgrimage place to visit in Somnath.

History of Kamnath Mahadev Temple

King Mayurdhwaj built the massive Kamnath Mahadev Temple complex more than 200 years ago. In the middle is a big temple to the main god, Kamnath. Around it are many smaller buildings. Inside the edge, there are two vast amounts of water. Dudhiyu Talav is a holy pond, and Mahadev no Kund is a bathing pool.

Many people believe that King Mayurdhwaj got better from leprosy after swimming in Dudhiyu Talav, which is why many religious people come to swim in this pond.

The temple is for Lord Mahadev and is the home of Shri Sharada Peetam of Sri Adi Shankara. Another temple in the complex is the one for Maa Sharada.

There is also a long, narrow cave called Shankara Cave, where Adi Shankaracharya meditated for many years. At the entrance to this cave, a beautiful show of all twelve jyotirlingas of Shiva is put on.

The best time to visit

All year long. At the end of the month of Shravan, a fair at the temple site brings many people. A temple worth including in the Somnath tour package.

A stunning display of Shiva's twelve jyotirlingas is shown at the cave's entrance. Devotees from all over India travel to this location after the month of Shravan, when a big fair takes place to celebrate the completion of this sacred period.
