Kallathigiri Falls also named as the Kalhatti Falls. It is an attractive place located at a distance of 53 kilometers from Chikmaglur. This waterfall is an ideal destination for peoples who love thrills. Among local tourists, the Kallathigiri Falls is very famous. This waterfall streams down from the Chandra Dona mountains, and the height of this waterfall is about 400 feet. Around Chikmaglur, this waterfall is considered as the first significant waterfall. History of Kallathigiri Falls

According to local legends, the Kallathigiri Falls was a pilgrim centre of the Saint Agasthya. Agasthya Muni chanced upon this waterfall during his traveling and stayed here for a few months. Here, you can explore the Veerabhadra temple, that was constructed during the era of Vijayanagara. At the entrance of this waterfall, you can see the structure of three elephants. These structures of elephants show the influence of Vijayanagara architecture. For this religious influence, it is believed that the water of this waterfall is very sacred. Here also you can see an annual fair, that is organized for three days and in tribute to Lord Veerabhadra. One cannot miss visiting Kallathigiri Falls, an essential destination among the places to discover in Chikamagalur, at least once in their lifetime.
