Legend of Kodandarama Shrine
The Legend of the Kondarama Shrine is very much exciting and appeasing. With reference to the sthalapurana, Parshurama was subdued by Rama at Hiremagalur and Parshurama had requested Rama to show the scene of his marriage. As a result of this Sita stands to the right side of Lord Rama and Lakshman to his left, which are correct according to Hindu marriage ceremonies. This is probably the only temple where Sita is portrayed to the right side of Rama except the other temples where she stands to the left. The idols are beautifully sculptured with beautiful ornaments on them. “Bharghavpuri” was also a name of this place. It is one of the best pilgrimage places to visit in Chikmagalur and must include in Chikamagalur tour package.
